Glitchless Ruleset

This ruleset is based off the official glitchless speedrun ruleset for the vanilla DK64 speedrun. All rules here also apply to glitchless randomizer settings, with some minor changes which are listed in bold. If any clarifications are needed, post in the #races channel in the DK64 Randomizer Discord server.

Allowed

  • Lag boosting via oranges to increase kong speed
  • Damage boosting
  • Skid Jumps
  • Slope Resets
  • Power Slides/Z-Slides
  • Crouch Fall
  • Cutscene Skips (Cancelling a cutscene with another one, playing your instrument to override them) (exception: cannons that shoots the kongs themselves cannot be interrupted)
  • Resetting the console
  • Pause exiting a level
  • Orange/Move Dives (exception: gun dives, diving without having the diving move)
  • Jumping out of bonus/training/helm barrels after completing them
  • Bridge Grab in Diddy's Mountain in Japes
  • Chimpy Charging the "KONG" switches in Tiny's area in Aztec before raising the platforms
  • Freezing DK's ice maze in Crystal Caves via damage or instrument (still not allowed to clip through the maze walls)
  • Putting the gun in the light in Diddy's phase in K Rool, or peanut ammo clipping through the light, to shoot the switch from the opposite side (very easy to accidentally do)
  • Mechanical Fish Desync (which allows you to shoot targets through the fan blades)
  • Filling up the top 5 scores in the DK Arcade beforehand so you don't high score mid-run
  • Taking pictures of fairies through a window (eg. Museum Fairy), or in a mini monkey walkway (eg. 5-Door Temple Fairy)

Banned

  • Entering a lobby without opening it in K Lumsy (Keys get auto turned-in upon grabbing them under Season 2 settings.)
  • Entering a level without removing the B. Locker
  • Going Out of Bounds/Through Walls
  • Low Gravity Abuse Tricks (Moon Kicks, Moon Lanks)
  • Any kind of action (jumping, attacks) while in the middle of a Skid Jump
  • Moontail
  • Crash Climb
  • Glitched Cannon Shots
  • B. Locker Skips
  • Tag Barrel Storage (this can easily be done by accident, re-enter the tag barrel if this happens)
  • Try Again Storage / Pause Cancel
  • Grabbable Object Storage
  • Null Pointer Grabs
  • Intro Story Glitch
  • Dogadon Quick Kill
  • Grabbing and shooting objects (both 3rd and 1st person) through walls, gates, other objects (Diddy phase of K Rool is an exception, see allowed)
  • Duplication in any form
  • Remote blueprint collection
  • Spawn Snags
  • Collecting objects not belonging to that specific kong (Randomizer change clarification: any kong can collect any collectable dropped by a Kasplat under Season 2 settings)
  • No Clip
  • Feather Corruption
  • Skew Walking
  • Flashback Warp
  • Void Warp
  • Gun Dive
  • Klaptrap Kontrol Glitch (Kong control in mini games where you otherwise cant control or have limited control of your kong. Restart the mini game if this happens.) (This was patched in Randomizer and is no longer possible.)
  • Collecting a GB spawned from a race without completing the race
  • Entering the Mini Monkey pipe in Hideout Helm as a regular-sized kong
  • Taking fairy pictures through an object/wall/door/etc
    • We do know that fairies have a wonderful tendency to fly behind a wall at a moment's notice. If you are in a position where you're intending to capture it legally, and you accidentally capture it from behind a wall, it's acceptable.
  • Using transform barrels without their moves by entering them as they spawn. Example: Link

Caveat to banned glitches: We know DK64 is incredibly buggy. Accidental glitches that save no or very minimal time will not invalidate a run.

Additional Randomizer Clarifications

  • Using tag anywhere mid-jump to swap to a kong to grab a higher ledge than the max grab range of the kong that originally jumped is allowed.
  • Diving underwater without the dive move is banned. (Exception: entering a non-underwater loading zone where the destination is underwater is allowed. For example: Galleon lobby through a loading zone that isn't underwater.)
    • This ban also includes various methods of underwater travel when you shouldn't, including tag spam, and all other future potential loopholes.
  • Accessing the Helm Lobby loading zone without using the Monkeyport pad to get there is banned.
    • For Switchsanity, you cannot enter Helm Lobby without using the pad that replaces the lower Monkeyport pad in Isles.
  • Clearing the Hideout Helm B Locker without using Chunky, Gorilla Gone and Vines is banned.
    • For Switchsanity, you cannot enter Helm without Vines and using the pad that replaces the lower Gorilla Gone pad in Helm Lobby.
  • Getting an item to go through a wall so you can collect it without the kong clipping through walls is banned
  • Using Chunky to grab the ledge which houses Lanky's wrinkly door in Factory Lobby to gain access to the upper floor of Factory lobby is banned. You are allowed to read Lanky's wrinkly door hint, as this is readable without clipping through the floor.
  • You are able to kill enemies in general through walls with shockwave. In some instances, like the Castle Lobby Kasplat based on the Kasplat's location, can drop the item close enough to the wall or even outside the enclosure where you can collect it without needing to open the Coconut gate to get it. This falls under the previous ruling where collecting items that clip outside their intended enclosed area is banned.
  • Carrying Chunky Kong-only carriable objects with other kongs other than Chunky (or Krusha only if Krusha replaced Chunky Kong) is banned.
    • These objects include: Boulders, Cannonballs, Vases, Steel Kegs and the Apple.
