Greetings,
I am looking for a generic way of solidifying an open surface (more concretely a partial surface scan of a given object) which is guaranteed to be continuous and manifold within the bounds of another watertight mesh. More concretely I am looking to retrieve the part of the watertight mesh that is bounded by the negative side of the open surface (and remaining original mesh).
Currently my approach is to load the open surface as a distance field and use that to fracture the originally watertight mesh, followed by some filtering on which components of the fracture residuals should be kept. However, this approach is not only slow, it is also error prone as the filtering is not so straightforward in all cases.
Does anyone have any advice for what I am trying to achieve?
Thanks in advance!
