Displaying data on website

Hi,
I now learned how to display data and buttons on the SYSTEMS page of the WebUI, great!
But it would be even better if I could place some data on the IMAGE itself, so adding my own data to the default data in the left-top corner of the camera image: date/time/sensor/exp/gain (see screenprint attached).

Is this possible?
What do I need to change/script where?

@HPWever Harold, See the "Extra Text" setting. It allows you to add text on the left side. There is also a field in the WebUI where you can add one line of text. See the Wiki page on allsky settings.

We are working on a GUI to allow users to add text and images anywhere on the image.jpg file by simply dragging to the desired location. You'll be able to set the color, opacity, and size of every field and easily add your own data, for example, ambient temperature. This will be like the "Extra Text" setting but much more capable.

Was browsing all scripts on the Pi to find the "Extra Text" option; then I found it in plain sight on the settings tab of the WebUI. Made me feel stupid at first but now really excited it actually works. Thanks a lot and looking formward to your "anywhere" GUI; would be great if I can ploth the currrent pointing of the telescope onto the allsky image.

@HPWever Harold, I assume "... if I can ploth the current pointing..." should be "if I can PLOT the current ..."?
It will probably be possible with the "overlay editor" but may require some user-generated scripting to specify the x,y coordinates of the text or image to overlay. I'm checking into that.

Indeed a typo; it is PLOT.
No problem to program what X,Y coordinates should be and store them in a textfile (like with "Extra text"), but maybe you are even able to leverage the options of virtualsky (now used for the existing starmap overlay)....

@HPWever The GUI overlay editor will create a configuration file based on what text and images the user wants overlaid, as well as their position (x,y), color, size, etc. Normally users will never look at that file. The editor will also read a user-script-generated file that contains "variable=value" pairs, for example, AMBIENT=30. In the overlay editor the user will have already entered something like "Sensor temp: ${AMBIENT} C" and specified the color, location, etc. The editor will replace ${AMBIENT} in that string with 30, then overlay the new string on the image at the specified location.

One way to display something at different locations on an image is to edit the x,y for that item in overlay configuration file, but that's clunky and ideally the user should never read or write to that file. I'm trying to see if there's an easier way, for example, adding AMBIENT_X=21 and AMBIENT_Y=100 to the user-script-generated file to place the item at x=21, y=100.

In your case your script would create a data file with:

SCOPE="some_symbol_for_a_telescope"
SCOPE_X=21
SCOPE_Y=100

then modify the _X and _Y entries as the telescope moves. The telescope symbol would be displayed at the every-changing coordinates. In the overlay editor you'd add an item called ${SCOPE} in the color and size you want, and give it a default location.

We'll see what can be done.
