Encoding an intentionally left gap

What is a proper way to encode an intentionally left gap i. e. a gap which was to be filled in later, as it seems to be the case in the note which I attach?

the element to be used in such case is <space> In our Guidelines we offer a specific value in case we know that this was left for a word to be rubricated. see https://betamasaheft.eu/Guidelines/?id=space

I think you can use it without any value for @reason, or, because it is a open list of allowed values, any other value you like. I would go for no attribute, since it is optional.
