2020 Housing Unit Data Review

Overview:

The State Demography Office creates sub-county population estimates that are used for several programs in the state. The first phase of this process involves estimates of total housing units. These data will be used as the foundation for your entity's population estimate.

Instructions:

Review the data for your area(s) below.

Update your housing data using the excel file attached to the email you received. Please download and save the excel file you received to your local computer before completing the form

Save the file using the following naming conventions:

For Municipalities: "Construction - Municipality Name County Name"
where Municipality Name is your town’s name and County Name is your county name

For Multi-County Municipalities: "Construction - Municipality Name County Name"
Submit a separate excel file for each county of your municipality

For Counties: "Construction - County Name
where County Name is your county’s name

Make sure to enter the name of your local government, and your contact information in Rows 2 to 5 of Column C of the excel file.

If you find the data on our website is incorrect, including zeros, or missing previous years, please enter the updated information in the appropriate cell.
HIGHLIGHT REVISED DATA IN RED.

Please send us data through the most current month you have available.

We are requesting monthly counts of new housing units only.

We do not need an accounting of permits issued for building improvements (e.g. new roofs, internal remodels) or for new non-residential structures (e.g., barns and other out buildings).

For new single family housing units, please count each one singly.

For new apartments and multifamily buildings (e.g., condos, townhomes, etc.), please report the number of individual units, not the number of permits.

If your jurisdiction does not use building permits, certificates of occupancy, or demolition permits, please contact us via email about alternative data like electrical or water hookups etc.

Return your spreadsheet(s) to nancy.gedeon@state.co.us or adam.bickford@state.co.us by the due date (depending on who sent you the request).
