Open source symbol sources for use in DRIVER
Analysis of their answers have conducted us to the following principles:
- Do not use too many symbols;
- Only four categories are sufficient to classify information:
- Unique clearly distinguishable frameshape per category;
- Incident;
- Risk;
- Operation;
- Infrastructure.
- The needs to distinguish information reliabilty and resource numbers (currently in developpment)

- United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian affairs (OCHA) SVG and PNG formats
- SITAC symbology (for forest fires)
- Online Browsing Platform to browse for icons and ISO standards, many of them free.
- The Noun Project: Many vector icons in black and white, contains also the OCHA collection
- Syncfusion Metro Studio: Handy tool to create a collection of icons. You can also suggest missing icons, which normally, after some time, will be created for you for free
- IconFinder: mix of vector and normal icons, also in color. Many of dubious quality.
- IcoMoon: a few free generic icon collections
- FontAwesome: a font with many generic and social media icons
- GlyphIcons: as above
- FamFamFam: contains for example flags of the world
- Google map icon font
- General map icons from Mapbox
