Download DXRandoInstaller.exe in the Assets section under the changelog. It is safe to update in the middle of a playthrough.

Use vanilla (optionally with Lay D Denton) to get all of the Randomizer's features, best QoL improvements, and the most polished experience. Our installer has an option to install Lay D Denton for you automatically.

Major Changes

  • New Vanilla Fixer program - similar to our installer, except it defaults to only apply the fixes to vanilla for modern computers with high resolutions and high framerates, without changing the gameplay at all. Like a "Zero Changes" mode.
  • Installer now has an option to default to Zero Rando mode for vanilla menu experience on the first start
  • Rando Medium mode, disables goals rando and memes
  • Disabled fast forwarding through infolinks in training, and training restores health each map
  • Fixed M04 street doors not opening after talking to Paul
  • For other mods, fixed the M04 alliance change when using the computer
  • Fixed M03 airfield helibase, chance for the key to not be available if the enemy is not there (and similar problems on other maps)
  • Randomize MaxAmmo, and maxCopies for stackable items
  • Laser triggers now ignore in flight projectiles (such as throwing an EMP grenade at them), and the weapons that enemies are carrying
  • Reduced lower-bound door/keypad strength adjustments, to try to increase variety
  • Explosives Only loadout
  • Rubber Baton for Stick With the Prod Plus, Grenades Only, and Explosives Only
    • Does 3 damage so you can break crates and windows, but deals 0 damage to enemies

  • More Aug Improvements
    • Aug descriptions show if they're automatic and their linger time
    • Ability to early disable auto augs
    • Combat Strength now has a quicker linger time
    • Microfibral Muscle, deleted levels 2 and 3, so you only need 1 upgrade can to get to max level
    • Aqualung is now perfectly automatic, and deleted levels 1 and 3, so it starts off better and you only need 1 upgrade to hit max
    • Aggressive Defense System now only tracks projectiles that are near you, saving some energy and being less annoying
    • Synthetic Heart now has a shorter linger, and the auto setting does not increase its energy usage
    • Targeting aug no longer shows the annoying "No Image" black rectangle on lower levels, and on max level the image only shows when you have a weapon drawn
    • Improved Vision Enhancement/Tech Goggles green filter to be less green

  • Camera Mode can now be selected under the advanced settings (for third person and fixed camera like Resident Evil)

  • Reduced throw distance of melee weapon when an enemy dies

  • Rando menu will check if a song file exists before enabling it (you must provide your own music files for Unreal and Unreal Tournament to enable them, we cannot legally provide these)
  • Slightly more obvious error messages with a buzz sound

Augs overhaul

  • Auto Augs (optional) you'll be able to leave many augs enabled and they will only use energy when they're useful.
    • Ballistic Protection, Combat Strength, Aggressive Defense System, EMP Shield, Energy Shield, Environmental Resistance, Synthetic Heart, and Targeting
    • A triggered aug will use energy for 5 seconds and then automatically stop using energy. Automatic augs will use twice the normal energy rate per second (the description will show this value).
  • Tweaked difficulty settings to compensate, increased combat difficulty for all
  • Increased energy usage for Aggressive Defense System
  • Aug Upgrade Cans will no longer be deleted from carcasses
  • Increased the chances of AugBots, especially for WaltonWare and Speedrun mode

More randomized goals

  • The NSF HQ (M04) transmitter computer is now also randomized, which provides a lot of variety for your escape plans.
  • Hong Kong Versalife Labs 1 now has an additional location the computers could be in: the office overlooking the hand statue. You will be able to see this computer from below through the window.
  • In Return to NYC (M08), Jock is now randomized for the escape, as well as the spawn points for the MJ12 raid. (Scout out for the black vans to see ahead of time.)
  • Leo can now spawn on the Liberty Island North Dock near Harley Filben. (They're pals)
  • The bilge pump computer's location is now randomized in the superfreighter (M09).
  • On Silo (M14) the computer for redirecting the missile is now in a random location, and Howard's random locations are different now with only 2 of them being in near the missile. Also Howard will no longer appear until after Helios is born (Vandenberg Computer room), you've gotten the schematics for the Oceanlab UC, and you've redirected the missile with the computer.

Major Changes

  • Allowed saving during infolinks, and restored Tong's annoying Paris infolinks
  • Reduced in-fighting issues
  • Fun new Crowd Control effects like Drop Piano and Resident Evil camera!
  • Tear gas can no longer kill you, but it can still bring you really low on torso health!
  • Lasers now have more consistent behavior:
    • Lasers are now triggered by anything except NPCs/enemies, preventing the cheese of using a grenade or other object to block the lasers and safely walk past.
    • Red lasers act as an alarm when triggered
    • Blue lasers will only trigger something else
  • Weapon cooldowns are now more obvious with a red glow when the cooldown is longer than the animation, and animation speeds are also adjusted
    • The sniper had a much longer cooldown than animation, especially on a bad seed, so we made it reload after every shot to reduce confusion.
  • Fixed max ammo for NPCs/enemies. They were getting hit by the same max ammo reductions that the player was, causing them to run out of ammo early, especially robots.
  • Speedrun mode now starts with max energy

  • Gas station fixes, now the guards inside will do a better job of killing Tiffany when alerted.
  • Increased running speed for Tiffany Savage and Maggie Chow
  • Vandenberg Tunnels fixes
    • Fixed the Nanokeys sometimes being placed in hard to reach locations, and added more good locations for them.
    • The lasers that trigger the turret towards the end of the map have been changed from blue to red, so it feels more consistent.
    • The explosion in the radioactive room can now be (relatively) safely triggered from either side.
  • Vandenberg elevator fixed (open door button)
  • Fixed barrel behavior not always matching their appearance
  • More possible locations for items and enemies
  • The Merchant now drops all items when killed, including ammo
  • Gunther M01 and Gilbert Renton M04, all dialog options for giving weapons
  • Louis Pan fixes
  • Serious Sam mode slightly increased combat difficulty
  • Bartenders are less annoying
  • If you loot a weapon that you already have and you're full on ammo, the remaining ammo will stay on the ground.
  • You can now backtrack up the Area51 Bunker elevator
  • Mission 1 Joseph Manderley no longer cares if you had enough inventory space to accept Sam Carter's items.
  • Improved the cleaning up of enemies when completing M01 and M03.

  • Added new contributor, MQDuck, to the credits!
  • New AugBot, similar to a MedBot but it cannot heal, only install augmentations.
    • If there is no MedBot spawned for the map, then there is a default of 15% chance for an AugBot to be spawned. This can reduce the annoyance of carrying an augcan forever looking for a MedBot, especially on higher difficulties.

WaltonWare and Bingo improvements and fixes

  • New WaltonWare Entrance Rando mode! This combines the two game modes into one, for extra craziness.
  • Fixed BingoViewer sometimes failing to read the file
  • Scopes can now do "watch x" bingo goals without needing binoculars
  • Fem JC can now always pay for companionship
  • Sub base Jock immediately available in WaltonWare, this way you can immediately go to Silo if you have bingo goals there. This also helps if you're playing the new WaltonWare Entrance Rando mode. We felt like this was one of the toughest missions in WaltonWare so this should help balance them more.
  • New Game+ will now only allow you to carry over 5 of the same type of item (not counting stacked items). This mostly affects armor and camo hoarding, especially by MQDuck
  • Made skills more attainable after many loops, and reduced how many augs you get each loop
  • Flaming barrels are now moveable.
  • Kills and knockouts of characters are now distinguished (so knocking someone out won't count as a kill for bingo)
  • Added more pigeon generators and fish generators
  • Slightly improved RNG for random starting map
  • More bingo events

Major Changes

  • Installer now has an option to apply fixes to vanilla as well, sort of like a "Zero Changes" mode as an alternative to "Zero Rando" mode for the purists.
  • New color theme: Health - the color of your HUD is determined by how much health you have.
  • Toned down the Rando color theme speed
  • Added option to make flickering and strobing lights more chill (epilepsy-safe mode)
  • Ninja JC mode now allows mini-crossbow and knife, this provides more variety without dominating the ninja playstyle
  • Weapon mods can now be automatically applied to the weapon in your hand
  • Fixed weapon mods being randomized in Zero Rando mode
  • Tweaked number of medbots in Serious Sam mode
  • Nerfed randomized cameras and turrets, reduced their range and firing speed
  • Added a Forgot Your Password button to the Helios Computer room in Area 51 to let you replay the infolink giving you the password.
  • Fixed rotation of Dragon's Tooth Sword in mirrored maps, especially for the sniper nest location
  • Fixed issues with Gordon and Max moving to the temple when pawns get in the way. Ensure the monk doesn't spawn in until the ceremony (as intended) and clear pigeons out of the way.
  • Slightly reduced issues with in-fighting, we're still working on eliminating these
  • Fixed Zero Rando/Rando Lite Paul conversation skip
  • Reduced simulated Crowd Control frequency
  • Fixed Tong's dialog after doing Versalife before doing the UC, he would keep rambling and advance the story too far
  • Fixed "time bonus" going below 0 points
  • Removed demolition skill scaling the fuse time of grenades thrown by enemies
  • Prevented certain things from being placed in skyboxes, like a datacube in Versalife
  • Added TNT crate in Ship Below Decks locked closet, mostly for Stick With the Prod players, with added key for that door
  • Vandenberg Command keypads now glow white

  • Fixed the grenades in the Training mission
  • Fixed police datacube about Maggie Chow being shuffled, since reading it has consequences
  • Added small crate to Liberty Island behind the electricity so you can't get stuck
  • Moved Mission 2 Underground Sewers datacube out of the water, which caused issues trying to read it
  • Mission 2 Underground added more possible item locations
  • Fixed lasers in Oceanlab UC so they only trigger the doors once, same for the Dockyard sewer lasers
  • Vandenberg sub base elevator now crushes when encroached, so it doesn't get stuck
  • Speedrun mode added notes for each split in DXRSplits.ini file
  • Illuminated dangerous stairs in Paris apartment
  • Fixed RiotCop always being immune to pepper spray even without visor
  • Oceanlab backtracking buttons for greasel lab and crew module
  • Fixed rotation for security computer in Area 51 mirrored map
  • Fixed autosave causing the player to bounce upwards
  • For non-vanilla mods, fixed the binoculars starting item to use our customized version instead of regular binoculars

Walton Ware and Bingo improvements

  • Walton Ware better scaling for later starts by increasing skill points per mission and scaling the starting equipment too
  • More keys and datacubes available when starting at a revisited area, such as Paul's apartment
  • Generic kills/knockouts only count when the player actually did them
  • Know smuggler by default so the Return to NYC start is less awkward
  • Everett goals in Everett start
  • Many more bingo goals, now up to 310 total, with each starting mission having at least 50 to choose from
  • Enable prison pocket for Walton Ware so that you keep your equipment when you start in mission 5 jail (to keep the pace a bit faster)
  • Fix pool balls goal in Lucky Money
  • Flare Darts can now light trash bags and other decorations on fire
  • Allow stomp damage on friendlies

  • Fix for the installer on Linux finding the right path for Kentie's Launcher configs
  • Gave Hela a guaranteed Sewer key and randomized her location within the MJ12 bunker in the catacombs (#535)

  • Tweaked demolition skill balance and attached grenades now have a bigger blast radius and higher damage compared to thrown grenades, especially at higher skill levels

Major Changes

  • Many Walton Ware and Bingo improvements and fixes
    • More bingo goals, over 250 now! (one of the new ones is a Simpsons reference)
    • Fixed bingo win while inventory is open crash (was common with bingo goals for using items)
    • Fixed for kill allies bingo goal, now it'll count anyone who doesn't start as hostile to you
    • Tweaked banned skill levels, remove banned skills (not levels) from Walton Ware so you can always hack a computer
    • Tweaked New Game+ scaling and limits
    • Walton Ware no skill cost rerolls instead of the usual reroll every 5 missions
  • In-game splits viewer like LiveSplit for Speedrun mode
    • Auto splits for each mission
    • Compares against balanced splits instead of PB splits (time saves and time losses from the PB are redistributed across the splits, because this is a randomizer)
    • Customization options available in DXRSplits.ini (the game will create this file once the splits window is shown)
    • Here's a video of me doing a speedrun with this
  • More installer improvements, more renderers installed by default (D3D9 and OpenGL2), and auto installs DXVK to improve compatibility for modern computers.
  • M02 Warehouse removed boxes in sewer, and added button and keypad for backtracking through sewer

  • Add a nanokey for Tim's Closet in Vandenberg.
  • Add several placeholder locations to the mission 3 airfield barracks so that the datacube with the hangar code can appear in slightly more interesting spots.
  • Trying to pick up a weapon that you don't have space for will still yoink the ammo right out of it.
  • Carcasses toss items that the player can't pick up.
  • Allow picking up partial item stacks (for making it easier to grab stuff from MJ12 Jail)
  • Make it easier to drop items from the inventory screen. They will now always drop right at your location.
  • Speedrun mode now always sets devices hackable to 100%
  • Removed Le Merchant from Zero Rando and Rando Lite modes
  • Fix Extreme/Impossible difficulty exploit in the New Game screen of upgrading skills and then clicking Restore Defaults. Normally skill costs are proportional as you go to the higher levels, but Extreme/Impossible enable unpredictable skill costs. In order to prevent scouting ahead on the skill costs to keep them unpredictable, we've disabled the downgrade button on the New Game screen.
  • Speedrun mode now gets in game timer notifications after every loading screen.

Major Changes

  • Augmented Enemies thanks to Silverstrings:
    • For increased challenge, rare enemies with special abilities. See the Wiki for more details
    • (These screenshots were taken using the help of Serious Sam mode, and without helmets so you can see them better. The tough augs can't get helmets because they don't need them.)

  • Walton Ware mode: a game mode focused on quickly doing bingos and New Game+

    • Each round can be beaten in around 10 minutes or even less!
    • In order to make Walton Ware possible, we added these new options which it enables by default (you can also enable these individually on the Advanced page):
      • Random starting map
      • Bingo win at 1 line
      • Bingo Scale of 0% so all bingo goals are reduced to their lowest amount
      • Bingo Duration of 1 mission so it only selects events that can be done right away
      • 5 free spaces on the bingo board
    • We're also now over 200 bingo events!
    • This is what a Walton Ware bingo board looks like

  • New Speedrun mode: speedrun with fewer resets while still being able to enjoy higher difficulties.

    • Reduces randomization range for skill costs and strengths
    • Uses the same doors rules as Normal difficulty
    • Some tweaks to scoring to accommodate this such as doors rules having a bigger impact on your score
  • Crowd Control online and simulated together for the average streamer that doesn't have many viewers

  • Fixes to various mirrored maps, so make sure to tell the installer to download the new mirrored maps!

  • Steam Deck fix for health display after waking up from sleep.

  • Autofill passwords even in Zero Rando mode, great for Steam Deck players!

  • We now prevent using lockpicks/multitools on doors/keypads you have the key/code for, great for people who don't read!

  • New website Mods4Ever.com

Major Changes

  • New in v2.5 are Mirrored Maps! Play through the game with a random mix of mirrored maps, which will keep you on your toes even more than the randomizer has before!
  • You can now choose what map to start the game in the Advanced menu, if you want to start in Hong Kong or Paris, for example.
    • You’ll start with an appropriate amount of skill points, augs, and equipment.
    • Likewise, the bingo board will be intelligently built and scaled to match your position in the game.
  • New Installer program, which takes care of everything for you including some performance fixes for the game!
  • Randomized visors for enemies! This is similar to randomized helmets except the visor gives resistance to pepper spray and gas grenades.
  • Increased Rates Randomization variance
    • For items and enemies we tweak their rates on a per-seed basis, which increases how unique each seed feels.
    • In v2.5 we increased the variance for these so the differences should be more apparent.

  • Fixed issues with boatguard in Mission 3 Airfield not appearing, he's the one with the East Gate key
  • Remember the Bingo Win option when going to New Game+
