Setup Instructions

  1. Create a Google Cloud Project:
    1. Go to the Google Cloud Console.
    2. Click on the project drop-down and select "New Project".
    3. Enter a name for your project and click "Create".
  2. Enable the Google Sheets API:
    1. In the Google Cloud Console, go to "APIs & Services" > "Library".
    2. Search for "Google Sheets API" and click on it.
    3. Click "Enable" to activate the API for your project.
  3. Create OAuth 2.0 Client ID:
    1. In the Google Cloud Console, go to "APIs & Services" > "Credentials".
    2. Click "Create Credentials" and select "OAuth client ID".
    3. Choose "Web application" as the application type.
    4. Set the authorized JavaScript origins to the URL where your app will be hosted (e.g., https://yourdomain.com).
    5. Set the authorized redirect URIs to the same URL.
    6. Click "Create" and note down the Client ID.
  4. Create API Key:
    1. In the Google Cloud Console, go to "APIs & Services" > "Credentials".
    2. Click "Create Credentials" and select "API key".
    3. Copy the generated API key.
  5. Create a Google Sheet:
    1. Go to Google Sheets.
    2. Create a new spreadsheet.
    3. Copy the Spreadsheet ID from the URL. It's the long string of characters between '/d/' and '/edit' in the URL.
  6. Deploy the Application:
    1. Host the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files on a web server.
    2. Ensure the URL matches the one you set in the OAuth client settings.
  7. Configure the Application:
    1. Open the application in a web browser.
    2. You'll be prompted to enter the Client ID, API Key, Spreadsheet ID, and Sheet Range.
    3. Enter the Client ID and API Key you obtained earlier.
    4. Enter the Spreadsheet ID you copied from the Google Sheet URL.
    5. Set the Sheet Range (e.g., 'Sheet1!A:D' for columns A to D in Sheet1).
    6. Click "Connect" to save the configuration.
  8. Use the Application:
    1. Fill out the daily report form with your task, category, date, and hours spent.
    2. Click "Submit Report" to send the data to your Google Sheet.
    3. If prompted, sign in with your Google account and grant the necessary permissions.

Troubleshooting

  • If you encounter errors, check the browser console for more detailed error messages.
  • Ensure that you've enabled the Google Sheets API for your project.
  • Verify that the Client ID, API Key, Spreadsheet ID, and Sheet Range are correct.
  • Make sure you're signed in with a Google account that has access to the spreadsheet.
