A PACKED update to Modulab (previously SF-NTP-FF), including custom backgrounds, sitewide color theming, a new downloads module, a new look for bookmarks, and much more.

New:

  • Background-based color theming
    • Similar to Android’s Material You color theming, Modulab now uses your background image to theme elements of the page, from checkboxes, to background colors, to download items!
    • Note: This only works with uploaded images, the site’s included backgrounds will use a monochrome theme.
  • Custom background
    • You can now click the “+” option in the background’s reel to upload your own new-tab image!
    • Your selected image is saved automatically, and colors are selected alongside it
    • The page will brighten or darken the background and colors based on your system’s light/dark mode
  • Redesigned settings sidebar & button
    • A small tab appears in the bottom-right corner to open the settings sidebar
    • Settings now appears as a full-height sidebar
    • The page will shrink to the side as the sidebar appears so you can preview your changes in realtime
    • Extension version now appears in the top-right of the sidebar
      • You can click the version to open the extension’s GitHub page
  • Recent downloads module:
    • View up to 8 of your most recently downloaded items
    • Click to open the item in it’s associated application
    • Hover over an item and click the magnifying glass to show the item in your file browser
    • Enable/disable the module from settings
    • Note: Clearing the Firefox downloads panel will also clear the module on the page

Changed:

  • Reimagined Favorites icons:
    • Blurred background based on the icon
    • More lively with new hover and click animations
    • Adapts to light/dark themes
    • Blurred border that helps contrast icons that may otherwise clash with the background, appears solid when hovered
