Allow the community to vote on anything.

Uses include, but are not limited to,

  • purchase requests
  • storing items in the Geek.Zone
  • deciding on the venue for the summer party

Polls must be

  • configurable to be anonymous or open, based on the request type
  • decided after 28 days based the involvement of those that chose to participate

This excludes GZ elections, which must use opavote

Impact

High

I wonder if this could be similar to the forum where we could host an existing offering but integrate it with our SSO.

I'd prefer to keep as much as possible within www.Geek.Zone ideally

To clarify with the forum example, something like discourse which is self-hosted on Geek.Zone infrastructure, but is built by a third-party.

The data is kept by Geek.Zone, but the maintenance burden is mostly elsewhere so we can focus on more "core" features.

Although in this particular case I can understand how this might be a core feature as community decisions are so essential to Geek.Zone.

I'm just thinking if a third part has done a good job of this already and we can self-host that and integrate SSO with it that might be a good balance.

I am happy to use off-the-shelf where possible, I'm just eager for us to keep the user experience uniform. The user should be able to go to www.Geek.Zone and be able to do everything they need as a GZ member. We should not make people log into different systems to use the forum, participate in polls, pay for things etc
