Russian translation

Hi everyone,

I already mentioned this idea on the Guild of writers and wrote some messages on discord (https://discord.com/channels/341414079673401346/431972835083419649/1099201184704765992).

It is just about creating a russian localization for URU (MO:ULa client)

Some years ago, GULP Wanted to do that and at this time I downloaded some translated files, to tests the translation locally. It worked wonderful for books and writings, but still for menus/options/KI and subtitles it doesn't render russian message.
For books and writings I extended the font files by myself. Could be, that we need to merge this cyrillic things with your current version of fonts. So, I see here multiple steps, which I will like to go through with you:

1. Find a way to connect additional (russian) lenguage to MO:ULa.
2. Extend all fonts with cyrillic letters
3. Connect the translated files to the MO:ULa

If someone tells me, that it is possible to go through this steps, then I will start a topic at guild of writers forum, with a possibility to restore GULP or just find some way around to do a collaborative russian localization, which we will connect in the step 3 above:)

Surely, we can use my current files to test steps out, so the collaborative localizsion is more like step 4 to improve the translation, because current version is somehow dirty.

So, I will appreciate for your thought on this topic.

As mentioned on Discord, a good first step would be to send your Russian translations as a pull request to the moul-assets repo. Currently, we simply use the pull request comments to discuss translations - it works well enough and is simpler than setting up a dedicated website/system like GULP.

It worked wonderful for books and writings, but still for menus/options/KI and subtitles it doesn't render russian message.

It might work better with the current H'uru client. We've worked on improving Unicode support in the KI (chat, subtitles) and other places.

This would be a good addition I think. Nobody else has changed the original fonts yet, so I think you can just submit your modified versions.

I don't know how you extended the fonts, but the newest versions of PlasmaShop can edit .p2f files. That might make things easier for you.

Right now it's not easy to add a new language - the client's translation code has some hardcoded assumptions based on the current list of languages. I recently worked on that part of the code though and I have plans to improve that, so hopefully we can add new languages more easily in the future.

I needs a week or two. After that I will push it and we can continue integrate it.

Hi! I think I saw your post on the Guild of Writers forum. The GULP website went down years ago and there are no public backups, so unfortunately the translations there are probably lost now...
A few years ago, Cyan made all of the game assets freely available under a Creative Commons license, so it's now much easier for fans to contribute changes. All existing translations are found in the .loc files (in XML format) in the dat folder. Development work on the assets happens in this GitHub repo, so that is where translations can be submitted: https://github.com/H-uru/moul-assets/tree/master/compiled/dat
Unfortunately, even if Russian translations existed, it won't be easy to actually make Russian a playable language in the game. Some parts of the engine are still limited to Latin-1 or even ASCII. A few fan developers (including myself) have been working on fully supporting Unicode, but it's a slow process. Additionally, the game uses custom fonts for the handwritten notes, journals, etc., and those fonts are also limited to Latin-1 and have no Cyrillic letters. The game engine also has no font fallback system, because all currently supported languages use Latin letters and are supported well enough by all the fonts.
Finally, the game client for Cyan's MOULa server doesn't contain many of the fan-developed improvements, because it uses a different branch of the code. Work is in progress to switch the Cyan-provided client to the current H'uru codebase with all the fan improvements, but it's unclear when that will happen. Until then, Cyan's MOULa server cannot support any languages except English. Fan servers like Gehn do support multiple languages as far as the engine and translations allow it (but I think Gehn is also missing some of the newest translation-related updates right now).

I cannot login to the Git crededential manager for git.guildofwriters.org. What should I do?
I tested my login data on the webpage and its work, but the git credential manager from PC just did not let me in...

Git error:

It faist on pre-rush hook. What can be wrong?
