The purpose of this topic is to give everyone the opportunity to share their experience (and best practices) in improving the quality of translation in LunaTranslator, translation assistance, and also offer new ideas for the development of the project.

I will share my experience of translation through Gemini.

Translation Speed: I've found that Gemini 1.0-pro-latest translates text in about 2-3 seconds on average, making it a fairly efficient tool.
Custom Prompt: I use a custom prompt designed specifically for visual novel translation.

Visual Novel Translation Template

1. Task: Translate from [Source Language] to [Target Language] while considering all nuances and characteristics of dialogues commonly found in visual novels.

2. Instructions:

• Mood: [Describe the text's atmosphere, e.g., romantic-serious, comedic, dramatic]
• Genres: [List the novel's genres, e.g., romance, erotica, fantasy]
• Text Structure: [Specify the type of dialogues, e.g., face-to-face, internal monologues, narration]
• Accuracy:
  • Reflect the original meaning and context.
  • Be precise but allow sentence restructuring for better conveyance of meaning.
• Style:
  • Maintain the original style, including humor, emotions, and character speech patterns.

Consider the characteristics and gender of the characters in the novel:

3. Japanese text may be preceded by a name, for example: NAME「TEXT」. This means that the phrase belongs to a character with that name. In this case, also display the name before the line if it exists.

1. Задача: Перевод с японского на русский с учетом всех нюансов и особенностей диалогов, принятых в визуальных новеллах.
2. Инструкции к задаче:
Учитывать Настроение текста: романтично-серьезное. 
Учитывать Жанры: романтика, эротика, визуальная новелла
Учитывать Структуру текста: много диалогов лицом к лицу между героями, монологи и мысли героя.
Обеспечить высокую точность перевода: перевод должен отражать смысл оригинала, смысл прошлых предложений (контекст) и быть точным. Не бойся переиначить структуру предложения или порядок слов, если это будет положительно сказываться на переводе.

Gathering Information:

vndb: Use resources like vndb to find information about the visual novel, including genre, characters, and plot details.
GPT models: Utilize other large language models like GPT to extract relevant information from the vndb entry or other sources.

Translation Examples:

Providing numerous and diverse translation examples greatly impacts the quality of the final output.
Include character names within the examples to provide context and improve accuracy.

Context Handling:

Consider modifying the Python code of Gemini (LunaTranslator) to implement short-term memory or context awareness. This allows the model to reference previous sentences and maintain consistency in the translation.

Additional Tips:

Prompt Length: While more information is generally better, be mindful of the prompt length limitations of the language model.
Customization: Adapt the prompt to suit the specific visual novel and your desired translation style.
Temperature: You can play with the temperature, the lower it is, the more accurate the translation and more accurate adherence to instructions, in theory, but for each neural network this must be determined experimentally.
I use gemini temperature from 0.1 to 0.2.
