Tutorial or Instructions how to setup TeXiFy on macOS with working BibTex

Can anyone please help me? I've tried to search and read everything about setting up TeXiFy properly on macOS.

I have one major issue and a couple of minor problems. The primary issue is that either I don't know what button combination compiles the BibTex file, or I haven't installed it correctly. I use the pdfLaTeX compiler and built-in pdf viewer.

The first minor issue is that the compiled pdf scrolls exceptionally slowly in the built-in pdf viewer. Is it a bug, or can it be somehow adjusted?

The second minor issue is that I don't have automatic row breaks in the text I write. Can that be adjusted somehow?

I'm also very interested in reading how other academics use TeXiFy in PyCharm or DataSpell, so if there is some active community where people share their workflows, let me know.

A bibtex file can be compiled with a Bibtex run configuration, which is usually automatically created by TeXiFy. See https://hannah-sten.github.io/TeXiFy-IDEA/bibtex.html?section=MacOS

This is probably a bug, though not in TeXiFy but in the pdf viewer plugin: FirstTimeInForever/intellij-pdf-viewer#51

Yes, thanks. So the problem is that there is no bibtex run configuration linked. TeXiFy should do that automatically usually. How are you including your bibliography, with the \bibliography command?

Now I located the problem, at least to a degree. The problem seems to be DataSpell specific. I created a new project in PyCharm, and the citations work perfectly. Moreover, DataSpell creates all new Latex projects improperly, to begin with, so the out and source directories and files within won't build.

Odd, for me it works fine in DataSpell:

Glad it works in PyCharm, if you want me to help getting it to work in DataSpell please provide your exact setup (example files, zipped project, steps to reproduce the issue, exact issue description).
e.g. here is what I did;

• Install DataSpell and TeXiFy plugin
• Attach a directory
• Create main.tex and references.bib with the example from the wiki https://github.com/Hannah-Sten/TeXiFy-IDEA/wiki/BibTeX#example
• Open .tex file, click 'run main'
• Runs latex, bibtex, latex, latex and opens pdf which is correct.
  Please try if that works for you. If it does, you can figure out the differences with your other project

I talked with JetBrains support, and they looked at the logs. They suggested I report an issue here because the problem seems TeXiFy specific.

1. Open DataSpell 2022.2.1, TeXiFy IDEA 0.7.21 (MBP M1 Pro Max, macOS 12.5.1)
2. File > New project…
3. Select from the sidebar LaTeX
4. Define the directory and tap ”Configure with BibTeX support”
5. Click Create

Result: No directories are created.

Expected:
On PyCharm 2022.2.1 (Professional Edition), the same steps on my computer automatically create two directories called ”out” and ”src” and two files within ”src” called main.tex and main.bib. I run the main.tex file, which compiles the pdf, including the bib, precisely as expected.

However, even in PyCharm, I think there should be a directory for auxiliary files, but that is missing. Is there a way to create the directory manually and define the route to auxiliary files? My run configurations are missing the option to specify a directory for them.

Hence, currently, in PyCharm the only way to compile the LaTeX files and bib without errors is to point the output files to the src directory. Like this:

…/src/

It is very messy, and the ”out" directory is left unused.

For sure it's a TeXiFy issue, that's why I asked how to reproduce it.
