Backup and restore from OpenBoard to HeliBoard

Should backup and restore work for a personal dictionary? I restored OpenBoard's backup to a new HeliBoard and noticed none of the words for Serbian (Latin) were imported.

Is it something related to zz changes in HeliBoard or it doesn't backup learned words which are language specific? Is there any way to backup them somehow aside from going to every single word and switching language option to "for all languages"?

Also, all learned words have a default weight of 250. Should I decrease or increase the number for those which would need to be suggested more often with multilingual typing?

One more question which is not related to the backup/restore. Once the blue underscore appears under the "new" typed word, what's the correct way to proceed with saving it? If spacebar is pressed to continue typing the next word, the one typed will be autocorrected, so in order to save it, I have to tap delete (at this point autocorrect returns the typed word) and then spacebar again?

I restored OpenBoard's backup to a new HeliBoard and noticed none of the words for Serbian (Latin) were imported.

The locale for Serbian (Latin) used to be sr_ZZ, which is misusing the region code. Since this was causing trouble in several places and min API was increased to Android 5, I switched to use language tags, which contain the script. Conversion from the old style should work, but maybe there is some issue with this part (same issue would apply for Hinglish).

But actually it's not clear what you mean with "learned words". Is it words in the history, or words in personal dictionary? The latter one is not touched by upgrade, as it's more tricky to deal with (component of the system, not of the keyboard).

If you increase it they should be suggested more often, but 250 is almost the maximum anyway.

Yes. Or if the typed word shows up in suggestion strip (which it should as far as I remember) then you can just select it.

As I used the keyboard, the words which weren't in the initial dictionary started appearing in personal dictionary for Serbian (Latin) as that's the one I'm using. I added manually just one word to "for all languages" in order to test will it be restored to HeliBoard.

I tested it further, basically it backups and restores learned words from "Personal dictionary" in "For all languages" and "English" sections, but not for "Serbian (Latin)".

You would need to re-compile the dictionary with adjusted frequencies.
As far as I remember, words you type frequently will (slowly) increase in score (in user history dictionary), so maybe after a while the situation will improve.

FlorisBoard has an import/export function for system user dictionary. You could try exporting sr_zz and import it for sr-latn.
