At PARC there was a saying that "a font discussion" was something that was analogous to what is called bikeshedding.
A topic subject to endless debate. "What's a 4-letter word that starts with F?"
But we have to have a font discussion. I want to solve the "visibility" problem, and Ron wants to solve the "blackbox" problem (that the fonts we have in XCCS are very incomplete.) But I think we can solve both. Interim solutions like backporting unicode fonts to medley-compatible fonts just get in the way. It's not too much a stretch to build support for larger pixelmaps outside of (big)lisp address space. And use (optimizations of) common lisp 2d arrays as the Lisp access method.
