The high support for black midis is one of the things that made the original OmniMIDI great IMO. As OmniMIDI starts from scratch, I was wondering if it would be possible to combine that kind of black midi support with emulation of a Roland Sound Canvas module, significantly going past their original limits polyphony wise.
There are two major SC-55 emulation projects. The first, Nuked-SC55, is more complete and emulates more devices, but utilizes a non commercial license. libEmuSC has is not as finished, so compatibility is lower than Nuked-SC55. It also emulates only two devices (SC-55 and SC-55Mkii) compared to Nuked-SC55's larger selection. However, it is released under the LGPL license, which means that support wouldn't have to be kept as a separate module (for example omnimidi and omnimidi-nonfree)
