Is the overview lesson retired? #66
Comments
Hi Maneesha - yes, apologies for the slow updates on this. We are retiring the LC Overview. @LibraryCarpentry/curriculum-advisors are meeting in a few weeks to put the final touches on this plan, and at that stage (if not before) we'll update the LC lesson site. I'm not sure where the 2024-03-29 retirement date came from, but that wasn't something the CAC decided. We're likely to move the Tidy Data lesson into the core curriculum as a suggested first lesson, replacing the Overview. That isn't official yet, but I'd recommend you try Tidy Data instead of the Overview lesson at this stage. Tidy Data is stable and well-maintained. |
Thanks @chennesy |
Thank you for spotting the old reference @maneesha I've removed the references and links to the deprecated LC Overview lesson. |
What is the problem?
I've been opening a few issues/PRs as I prepare to teach LC in a couple of weeks, and I only just noticed the callout at the beginning of this lesson that says it will be retired 2024-03-29 (a little over a month ago). Looking at old issues, I do also see several issues about decomissioning this lesson. However, there is nothing on the main LC lesson page about it being retired. Is this lesson still active? Should this be included in the upcoming LC workshop? Should I be contributing improvements through issues and PRs? I appreciate whatever feedback I can get so my co-Instructor and I along with the workshop Host can be fully prepared for this workshop.
