CCPP Framework Meeting Minutes 2019 12 19

CCPP name(s):

• Are we still planning to change the name from CCPP framework to something else?
• We would be ok with SPIN for the unified NOAA-NCAR framework, and just CCPP for the physics (maybe with suffices -NOAA, -NCAR, -shared)

Discussion/update on outputting diagnostic variables from physics:

• On the long run, have diagnostic output capability that supports instantaneous, averaged, certain time windows, ...
• MPAS, CESM and WRF are more advanced than FV3 at the moment in configuring output at runtime
• Host model is responsible for the output
• Similarities between outputting diagnostics and handling namelists, we need a consistent solution for both
• Can we devise an intermediate solution that works with ccpp_prebuild.py? There should be no changes for the users when we switch to cap_gen.py.

Misc:

• Some conceptual progress towards removing redundancy between SDF and namelist options using ccpp_prebuild.py
• Meeting on December 26: possibly earlier and/or at a different location
