capgen.py process

• Process forward with getting capgen ready for the UFS
  • One DTC deliverable is to transition NCAR developments of the CCPP framework to the UFS
  • Our current timeline foresees to transition to capgen by the end of June 2021, this may not be realistic
  • How is capgen used currently in the NCAR models? Is it fully functional?
    • Cheryl is using a branch in Steve's fork
    • MPAS+CCPP is still work in progress, target is end of June for running a CCPP suite in MPAS
  • How many of the current ccpp_prebuild capabilities are still missing
    • List of open issues should give us an answer
  • Steve and Dom will meet on Thursday to discuss how to work together on capgen
    • Steve will merge his fork into the feature/capgen branch before the meeting

Transition to capgen.py

• What metadata does ccpp_prebuild expect for DDTs etc, and what capgen?
  • To be discussed with this group on June 1st
  • Also discuss how to handle two suites (fast and slow physics) in one suite definition file

Process for creating a master cross-lab standard name resource

• Discussion on how to capture tags or versions of ESCOMP/CCPPStandardNames repo
  • Need to create a page that can be searched (webpage, ...)
  • What should the scientist be looking at? Fixed tags?
  • Being able to publish documents for tags that can be added elsewhere is a good thing
• We still need a set of agreed-upon standard names for processes
• The current version should be v0.1.0; after accepting the "big PRs 13 & 14", bump it up to v1.0.0
• Governance for the ESCOMP/CCPPStandardNames repo
  • For now, the ccpp-framework developer committee
  • Once there is a CCPP physics governance committee, hand it over to them
