Incorrect BIOS/(U)EFI time results in libxenlight failed to create new-domain
, USB and net qubes not starting
#9440
Comments
I've got the exactly same error on an amd ryzen system. Any workaround in sight? |
I'm not sure about @johnnyboy-3 problem, but logs provided by @uncanny-xps suggest a system time issue. 2024-06-06 is few months in the past, and some parts of the system will get confused by that (I think specifically, if the time is before the installer release time, which is 2024-07-13 for R4.2.2) |
Thank you! |
After setting the correct system date/time installation completed succesfully. Issue resolved. |

FWIW some systems in our CI have this issue too (RTC battery not connected), and we have a silly workaround by manually setting time at the start of the install: https://github.com/QubesOS/openqa-tests-qubesos/blob/main/tests/install_startup.pm#L105-L111 |
How to file a helpful issue
Qubes OS release
4.2.2
Brief summary
Performing a clean install, default parameters on a Dell Precision 5520 i7 7820.
Installation finishes with an error message:
"['/usr/bin/qvm-start', 'sys-firewall'] failed:
stdout: ""
stderr: "Start failed: internal error: libxenlight failed to create new domain 'sys-net', see /var/log/libvirt/libxl/libxl-driver.log for details
"
After logging in qubes sys-usb, sys-net, sys-firewall sys-whonix and dependent qubes fail to start with the same libxenlight error message.
Reinstalled ~10 times using different flash drives and a memory card. Reinstalled using kernel-latest. Tried workarounds listed in PCI Troubleshooting and USB Troubleshooting. Error persists.
