Missing Animations and VFX

For some reason, multiplayer instances are lacking certain animations now. Shields of all types, unstable vortex, gate activation and closing animations are all missing in any multiplayer games. Host-dedicated as well as peer-to-peer servers seem to have this issue. Unsure if this is a client setting that has somehow limited visual effects on servers for me or if this is an issue with server compatibility. Any help would be appreciated.
