I'm wondering if it's not worth it to have the entirety of the source code of the project reformatted by swift-format with stock settings. It would remove a very real source of friction for contributions.

I'd definitely support this option. I have not worked with swift-format at all, so I don't know what to do to support it or to make it match my style.

I don't think I've ever seen options to enforce a let variable:Type = something style... With a space between the colon and the type, sure, but removing the space is a vanishingly rare style. swift-format is a bit frugal as far as customisations go but it's a first party tool.
