3D Challenge (Unreleased Tech Demo)

jy-company edited this page Jan 31, 2021 · 5 revisions

3D Challenge is an unreleased tech demo for the Nintendo 3DS, previously only shown to the press at E3 2010. It, alongside the demos 3D Hopper and 3D Paddleball, served as demonstrations on how the system's 3D capabilities could be applied by developers in a gameplay context. No known media of 3D Challenge has ever surfaced online until 2017, when GBAtemp user SirKelly came across a Nintendo 3DS dev unit with 3D Challenge installed. Three years later, the demo was successfully dumped and later released to the public through a post on the Forest of Illusion Twitter account.

The same texture used in Bob-omb Battlefield of Super Mario 64 appears as the wall prominently featured in 3D Challenge's unused "Ninja" game, a full 15 years later.
