This Report will help us to know the official rate of suicide in India and the number of male and female suicide rate, the status of the person, and mode or methods of suicide also the different causes.

Indian-Suicide-Excel-Data-Analysis

Introduction :

This project is about the suicide rate in India and comparison between the different states and union territories of India of the year 2022. Suicide is a major national public health issue in the India. 1.71 lakh suicides were recorded in 2022, registering a 4.2% increase over 2021 and a jump of 27% compared to 2018. The rate of suicide per one lakh population has increased to 12.4 in 2022 which is the highest year for this data. Suicides during 2022 increased by 27% in comparison to 2018 with India reporting highest number of suicides in the world. The male-to-female suicide ratio in 2021 was 72.5 : 27.4. This Report will help us to know the official rate of suicide in India and the number of male and female suicide rate, the status of the person, and mode or methods of suicide also the different causes of suicide. I have also calculated the rate of suicide by dividing number of suicides by total population. Through this I have compared between the States and UTs and also between the year 2018-2022.


This Project Includes :

  • Identifying the Problem : Firstly understood the data and its different variables through my analytical skills.
  • Data Cleaning and Processing : Converted the data into Table with Filters, removed all duplicate values, changed data type, used text to column technique to separate the columns and use of VLOOKUP etc.
  • Performing Descriptive Analysis : Inserted different meaningful Pivot table from the processed data and generated KPI from that Pivot.
  • Data Visualization : Constructed various significant insights in order to derive relevant information from Pivot Chart.
  • Enhanced Formatting : Altered the format of the Charts with the help of Format Painter.
  • Creation of Dashboard : Created a meaningful dashboards by compiling all the relevant charts together and also inserted additional features like Slicers, Buttons from Macros, Scroll Bar from Developers etc.

Project KPI :

In this Project, I have calculated the total numbers of suicide in India as KPI. It says that in 2018 we have the least number of suicide rate in India i.e. 134516 and with the rapid growth rate in 2022 it has increased to 170924.

  4. Which are the top 5 States or UTs that has the highest rate of suicide from 2018 to 2022 ?
  5. In which State/UT the total number of suicides is more than other in 2022 ?
  6. Which method of suicide is common in overall India in 2022 and which is common in the top State/UT ?
  7. Which cause of suicide is common in overall India in 2022 and which is common in the top State/UT ?
  8. What is the total number of male and female suicides in India 2022 and what is the number of suicides of male and female in the top State/UT ?
  9. What is the total number of transgender suicides in India 2022 and what is the number of suicides of transgender in the top State/UT ?
  10. Which type of profession has highest number of suicide in India 2022 ?
  11. What is the common education qualification of the suicidal victim in India 2022 ?
  12. Which type of marital status of the suicidal victim is common in India 2022 ?

Based on the report Insights, here are the outcomes :

  1. The State that has the highest rate of suicide than other states is Andaman and Nicobar Island which has 41.0 in 2018, 45.5 in 2019, 45.0 in 2020, 39.7 in 2021 and 42.8 in 2022 whereas Bihar has the least rate of suicide than other states i.e. 0.4 in 2018, 0.5 in 2019, 0.7 in 2020, 0.7 in 2021 and 0.6 in 2022 which is best thing for the state.

  1. The percentage of growth rate of India from 2018 to 2022 is 40% and the State i.e. Mizoram has 88% the highest growth rate from 2018 to 2022 than other and the State with the least growth rate is Manipur has -52% which is best thing for the state.

  1. In the year 2022, India has the highest rate of suicide i.e. 14.1 as there is continuous increase in the rate of suicide from 2018 to 2020. In 2018 it has 10.1 rate of suicide, 10.4 in 2019, 11.3 in 2020 and 12.0 in 2021.

  1. The top five States/UTs are Sikkim, Andaman & Nicobar Island, Puducherry, Kerala and Chhattisgarh in all the year from 2018-2022. From 2018 to 2021, Andaman & Nicobar Island is the top state with highest rate of suicide than in 2022 Sikkim became the top state with highest rate of suicide.

  1. In state Maharashtra, the total number of suicide is higher than other States/UTs i.e. 113730 in 2022 whereas the state with the lesser number of suicides is Lakshadweep i.e. 2 suicides in 2022 which is best thing for the state.

  1. The method of hanging is used by most of the suicidal victim in India in the year 2022 whereas the method of touching electric wire is mostly used for suicides. In Maharashtra, the method that is common for doing suicide is by hanging only in 2022.

  1. The cause of suicide that is common in overall India in year 2022 is family problem whereas the rare cause of suicide is illegitimate pregnancy which is common in females victim only. In Maharashtra, family problem is the most common cause of suicide whereas physical abuse like rape is the rare one in 2022.

  1. In India the total number of suicides in the male victim is higher than female victim which is 122705 males and 48191 females and in top state i.e. Maharashtra the total number of male victim is 18167 whereas the number of female victims are 4577 in the year 2022.

  1. The total number of transgender suicidal victim in India is 28 and in the top state i.e. Maharashtra number of transgender suicidal victim is only 2 and the state with higher number of transgender suicidal victim is Tamil Nadu with 16 transgender victim in the year 2022.

  1. The profession of daily wage earner have highest number of suicide in overall India in the year 2022 whereas government servants has the least number of suicides and when we talk about the top state i.e. Maharashtra, the daily wage earner still has the highest number of suicides.

  1. The most common education qualification of the suicidal victim in overall India is the students up to class 8th standard means the youngsters have the highest number of suicides whereas the professional has the lowest number of suicides in India in year 2022 and when we talk about the top state i.e. Maharashtra, the most common education qualification of the suicidal victim is matriculate or secondary level class students.

  1. In India, married status are the most common marital status in the suicidal victim in the year 2022 whereas divorcee is the least common marital status among suicidal victim and in case of Maharashtra, married status is still the common one whereas separated one is the rare status in the suicidal victim.


Conclusion :

Suicide is a complex and multifaceted issue in India, shaped by a variety of socio-economic, psychological, and cultural factors. High levels of stress due to unemployment, academic pressure, family conflicts, mental health disorders, financial instability, and the stigma around seeking psychological help contribute to the country's suicide rates. Vulnerable groups include farmers, students, and young people, particularly those experiencing social isolation or pressure. Through the help of this report we can analyse that day by day the suicide rate is increasing as the human pressure and responsibilities is increasing. We found that the person with less or lack of resources are the highest among the self-killers, the youngsters with lots of pressure due to competitions, education problem, resources, relationships etc. are also have top level in suicide rate and the married person who have huge number of responsibilities and family problem are the top members among the suicide victim. This report will help us to prevent the suicide problem from our close ones by focusing upon the top section of the victims. Through this we can be able to reduce the rate of Suicide in India.
