You may be interested in making your very own class portraits for a variety of reasons. Maybe you want to replace them with art done in your own style, or you wish to have your loadout appear instead. Whatever the reason may be, I will try to the best of my ability to document my findings while working on SOUP.
Before we begin, you should know a few things first:
- When designing your textures, create them so their dimensions are in a square (the preferred measurements are 512x512 or 1024x1024. That said, 512x512 is perfect, as any higher is barely noticeable).
- Avoid fine details when possible. Clarity is important!
- Ensure that your character focus is entirely within the canvas.
- Get familiar with the tools you're working with (VTFEdit, your preferred image editing software).
- Not a guideline per se, but keep in mind that you will be making many textures for each class on every team. In SOUP, there are 63 textures total.
