Hi there! 👋😊 I’m Aled, and I’ve been obsessed with creating apps since the iPhone was unveiled and I was blown away by the standard of quality from the design through to the user experience. Once the App Store opened I knew that I had to get involved and I’ve been working on mobile apps since! I’ve been lucky enough to work with some extraordinary people and I really want to focus on creating a passionate team that is really proud of both their individual and collective work to really push the boundaries even further.
Health is absolutely going to blow up over the next decade and it’s something I am incredibly passionate about and most of my personal projects use HealthKit such as "and Chill" and "Autooth". Keep an eye on my Twitter for updates on what’s new in the iOS Health world!
As a step towards Engineering Management I spent time as a Mobile Development Manager at Flipside Group, where I was responsible for other people's code and maintaining the quality of the apps. Among them were NHS Active 10 and Couch to 5K along with other NHS apps, and notably the Happy Place: Fearne Cotton app. It was great to work with such amazing internal developers as well as dev agencies from across the world in different timezones.
I was the Lead iOS Developer when I worked at Evoke Systems Ltd, where pilots and the rest of the crew depend on our work for smooth flights (if you ever get delayed don't come knocking on my door please!), and the professional attitude to the work is unrivalled. Whereas most of my other work has been agency-style, it's really refreshing to work on a singular product with full responsibility and accountability set to a high standard. Hoping to eventually fully lead the mobile team and become an Engineering Manager in the near future!
During the COVID-19 pandemic I spent a short stint working on an iOS wellbeing app at People Matter. Working with some incredibly knowledgeable people on the topic was such an amazing opportunity and I've learned so much not only about the wellbeing of others but my own.
I spent over 5 years working at Other Media who is top of their game in sport tech and I’ve helped bring many big names come to digital life.
Being Welsh is a big thing for me, and I’m proud to have made some of the most popular Welsh iOS apps ever, and the first Welsh Apple Watch app! To have reached over 100,000 Welsh speaking children is 💯 (it was quite the challenge being the sole developer at Big Click 😳 and even trying my hand at writing Android apps).
I like to share my thoughts on Twitter mostly though I'm looking forward to doing another talk sometime like my one at NSLondon about the then new Dark Mode support in iOS 13.
