I. Session 1 : Visualization of chronological data :
- Creating 2 timelines :
a. "Thucydides in his time" :
- Placing Thucydides in his century, among historians, playwrighters, politicians of his time.
- Problems with visualizing the periods of time that overlap with each other.
b. "Life of Thucydides" :
- Selecting the sections of The History of the Peloponnesian War in which Thucydides talks about himself in 1st person or indirect speech.
- Inventory
- Commentary
- Visualisation of these data with a timeline using Timemapper. Links to the texts in Perseus. Adding media.Life of Thucydides' timeline
II. Session 2 : Text Alignment
- Teaching the students how to use Alpheios for Text Alignement.
- Practicing with the translation of the first text : Birth of Thucydides (I, 1), from Greek to French.
III. Session 3 : Creating a website using Wordpress
- Experiments with Wordpress, relevant or not for the resources we want to provide ?
IV. Session 4 : Preparing the workshop in May : focusing on Thasos walls
- Listing the different data that we need to study Thasos walls. Working with Y. Grandjean's publication, creating the frame of study :
- Selecting texts mentioning the τεῖχος (Herodotus, Thucydides, Hippocratus, etc)
- Checking the translation
- Creating a timeline using Timeline JS : Thasos walls Timeline
V. Session 5 : Creating a blog on Hypothese.org
VI. Session 6 : Visualization
- Finishing Life of Thucydides' Timeline :
- Discussing the relevance of adding certain media (picture of a manuscript e.g.)
- Finishing the translation of the texts we selected.
