Design inspiration

Before starting to design the starfish animation, two YouTube videos that indicate how a starfish move has been viewed. After researching, the idea of moving its arms was decided.

Initial version of the starfish animation

In this stage, the animation was focused on the starfish's three arms and was tried to make the starfish stand on the ground. Seven frames were then created to meet the design purpose. After combining the seven frames, a user testing about the animation was conducted. The seven frames and the animation for user testing were shown below:

User testing

The details of initial starfish animation user testing is over Here. In this user test, we found 15 people who like to create arts in their daily life to give us some advice regarding the animation. The results came out that there was still space to improve for this animation. Therefore, a new version of the starfish animation was created.

Final version of the starfish animation

After receiving feedback from the user testing, the design team decided to make the starfish move more and try to not making it look like a semi-finished product. There were few challenges encountered in this stage, including whether or not making the eyes colour change, and if we move all five arms of the starfish. After comparing with the initial animation, we believed that it did look better when the eyes are changing colour and the starfish move all of its arms. The outcome was shown below:

Four directions of the starfish animation

Further, the back of the starfish was designed and also the seven frames were created. Finally, there were 28 frames and four directions created for starfish animation.
