Interesting. Any chance you could share that data file somewhere so I could take a look directly? How big is that file? Also, did something motivate you to compare the ERA5 specific humidity with the output from MetPy's calculation? |

I did not look too much at the details here, but did notice the use of From the ERA5 documentation for relative humidity here https://apps.ecmwf.int/codes/grib/param-db?id=157:
If the MetPy functions assume RH is with respect to water, then a temperature mask has to be applied to the ERA5 RH field so that you only get RH values where it is RH saturated over water. |

Hi everyone,
I tried to calculate the specific humidity from ERA5 data by using metpy.calc. But, it provides higher values (more than 1/10 th) as compared with ERA5 specific humidity (like the attached image). Please let me know why these huge variations appear. Is it due to the disparity in calculating approximations? Please suggest me.
