the MATE minimal desktop seems to basically work, but doesn't auto-resize the display

perhaps the regular one will?

starting with the FULL version first, then will try minimal

the RDP direct method worked for 18.04 as long as I also shut down the machine and did
Set-VM -VMName <your_vm_name> -EnhancedSessionTransportType HvSocket
