Frankly, it's all the same. I am used to using single quotes because of Joomla! and the way double quotes sometimes break it (especially when I have third party translators who are not using proper tools to translate strings). The browsers don't care if you use single or double quotes; HTML is a based on SGML which is very lax. I am not going to change quotes because it invalidates existing translations when updating your .po from the .pot. As to what you should do when translating: use whichever style is used. If at any point the single vs double quote causes a problem I would want it to be consistent across languages so as not to waste time chasing issues I cannot reproduce because I happen to not speak a particular language. |
