The Lal Mahal (Red Palace) of Pune is one of the most famous monuments located in Pune. In the year 1630 AD, Chhatrapati Shivaji’s Father Shri Shahaji Bhosale, established the Lal Mahal for his wife Jijabai and son. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj stayed here for several years until he captured his first fort. The original Lal Mahal fell into ruins and the current Lal Mahal is a reconstruction of the original and located in the center of the Pune city. Historically, the Lal Mahal is famous for an encounter between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Shaista Khan where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj cut off the later’s fingers when he was trying to escape from the window of the Lal Mahal.

This fort is believed to have been constructed by the Shiva Panth in the 13th century. A Menghai Devi temple, also referred to as the Tornaji temple, is situated near the entrance of the fort.
In 1646, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured this fort at the age of sixteen[citation needed], thus making it one of the first forts that would become one of the forts of the Maratha empire. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj renamed the fort ' 'Prachandagad' ' as Torna, and constructed several monuments and towers within it.[2]
In the 18th century, the Mughal empire briefly gained control of this fort after the assassination of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's son Chhatrapati Sambhaji raje. Aurangzeb, the then Mughal emperor, renamed this fort Futulgaib in recognition of the difficult defense the Mughals had to overcome to capture this fort. It was restored to the Maratha confederacy by the Treaty of Purandar.

The original name of Sinhagad was Kondhana, by a poet named Isami in the Persian poem Futuhsalatin or Shahnama-i-Hind (d. 1350) by Mohammad Tughlaq. S. It is known that Kundhiyana fort was captured in 1328. At that time this fort was in the possession of King Mahadev Koli named Nagnayak.
Mention of Kondanya in the Nizamshahi career of Ahmednagar etc. S. 1482, 1553, 1554 and 1569. Etc. S. Around 1635, when CD Hour was the fort at Kondhana, the Mughals and Adilshah took Kondhana together. At this time (1636 AD) Adilshah's treasure was looted by Mudhaji Mayade, the Nizam's chief in Donja's gorge.
The Adilshahi decree mentions that Kondhana was under the control of Subhedar Dadoji Konddev Malvankar during the reign of Shahaji.
Although Dadoji Konddev was a servant of Adilshahi, as he was loyal to Shahaji Raja, Shivaji Raja did not try to take Kondhana till his death (1647 AD). Soon after, the fort was captured by the kings.
Historian Shri. C. H. According to Khare , there is documentary evidence that Kondhanya's name was changed to 'Sinhagad' before the Tanaji incident. Ca. H. No. In Apte 's novel, however, it is mentioned that the name of this fort was changed to Sinhagad after the Tanaji incident

Purandar means Indra . Just as Indra's position is strong, so is Purandar. In the Puranas, the name of this mountain is 'Indranil Parvat'. While Hanumanta was carrying Dronagiri, part of the mountain fell down. Chandrasampat Deshpande of Bidar during the Bahamani period captured Purandar on behalf of the Bahamani government. He started the reconstruction of Purandar. Mahadji Neelkanth of the same family completed the work diligently. It used to collapse while building the Shendarya Buruj here. So Sonnak gave her two sons, Nathanak and Soon Devakai, to bury her. The tower was erected only after their sacrifice. This fort was conquered by Nizamshahi Sardar Malik Ahmed around 1489 . Later in Shake 1550 he came to Adilshahi . इ.स. Adilshah in 1649Shahaji Raja was imprisoned. At the same time Shivaji Maharaj captured many Adilshahi forts. So Adilshah sent him to Fateh Khan to take care of Shivaraya. The situation was dire. On the one hand, his father was in captivity and on the other hand, the invasion of Fateh Khan would endanger his sovereignty. The Maharaja chose the site of Purandar fort for battle at this time. But this time the fort was not under the control of Marathas. The fort was in the possession of Mahadji Neelkanthrao. Taking advantage of the quarrel between his brothers, the Maharaja succeeded in entering the fort. With the help of this fort, the Marathas fought against Fateh Khan and won the battle. Shivaji Maharaj achieved great success in this first battle. In the year 1655, Shivaji Raja appointed Netaji Palkar as the head of the fort. Vaishakh Shu. 12 Shake 1579 i.e. 14th May 1657 on this ThursdaySambhaji Raja was born on Purandar..

Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured it in 1648 AD, but he was forced to surrender it to the Mughals in 1665 AD by the Treaty of Purandar. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj recaptured the fort in 1670 AD and used it for keeping his treasury. This fort was used to keep the loot from Surat.
