Feature: cv1 emulation #2656
Comments
Does this have any actual application, i.e. what issue does this feature solve or what game does it improve compatibility with? |
Judging by their name, it's because of the Gorilla Tag thing, where people are picky about the types of headsets they can use because of controller prediction. |
ALVR has a lot of options to tune prediction already. But nevertheless changing the headset ID presented to the game will not change anything about the prediction being done, so if that's the goal then this is a bad idea. |
It's not about that, It's that they want to be in these tournaments in the game but they won't let them in unless they have a specific headset. They couldn't care less if you turned the prediction completely off within ALVR it'd still count as cheating to them because you're using a Quest on PCVR. So them wanting to be able to emulate a CV1 within Steam VR is just a way to try and get around that and not have to buy an entirely new headset. Dumb I know but it's just how that community works, It's a lot of children that care that much. lol |
I mean wouldn't we just actually enable cheating with that because alvr will present as a cv1 but can still do prediction? |
Yep, but at the same time, I understand why they want to use the headset they currently have. |
Also ig this is the sequel to #2294 |
