As a dev, I want to make deploying to prod env as hassle free as possible, so I should deploy early (and often).

Thinking we will probably start off with Heroku since it is free. Once we start getting some beta buy in we can talk about perhaps pushing to a paid tier of AWS Elastic Beanstalk or Digital Ocean.

For future reference, I would suggest EC2 with RDS over Elastic Beanstalk.

@Voxelsdev basically the same thing. EB is essentially a container for EC2 instances that can also be connected with RDS instances.
