How to use the Kanoon platform

Apoorv Anand edited this page May 25, 2019 · 1 revision

To view statistics for a particular Act and Section, the Kanoon portal has two workflows:

From UI

A user can select the Act/Section from the UI. Clicking on Explore by Act button, the UI lets you choose a Act and Section combination. Currently, using this option, users can view judgements aggregates for these acts:

  • The Indian Penal Code
  • Consumer Protection Act, 1986

All sections of the acts are present under the Select section to explore menu for exploration. We plan to add more acts and section combination in future by analyzing the frequency of queries per act on the platform.

Using an ID from the IndianKanoon platform

To not restrict user to just the choices available on the platform, they can enter an ID, which can be easily obtained from IndianKanoon, and view the respective stats easily as per their selections. By clicking on Explore by IndianKanoon ID on the homepage, there will be an option to enter the ID, post which the workflows are similar to view statistics. Some important points to note:

The ID should be valid - After the user enters an ID, a check is done to make sure that the ID is valid. By valid what we mean is:

  1. It should be present on the IndianKanoon platform
  2. It should be associated with a Central Act/Section. This workflow will not work for individual judgements or any other artifact on the IndianKanoon platform
