My income fluctuates based on different factors so I don't have a fixed income I can add as a positive rate. Instead, I add my paychecks as a transaction. That makes the pie chart as is not very useful for me and I rather look at the rate listing. In fact, that had me thinking what the pie chart was all about in the first place, until I tried to add a positive rate.
I was thinking that it would be great if the pie chart (optionally) could also incorporate transactions, say for the past 2-3 months calculated down to a per day amount. Of course, that would also require for the chart to combine smaller amounts into some sort of "other" item. But then this might already be useful for the rate chart right now, especially if you have a lot of smaller rates. For example, right now my pie looks like this:
It's already pretty busy, and it appears that the color palette is somewhat limited right now.
Whether you want transactions to be taken into account in the pie chart and for up to many months, could be something that is set in the profile of the user.
I think that this might not be just useful for me, but also others that may be paid by the hour, or that are self employed.
Back to the colors of the pie chart with a wider color palette, it might also be useful to have a little color square next to each rate as to give the chart a legend so you can tell the portions apart without having to hover over it. But I'm not sure how readable this would turn out.

Thanks for the thoughts. I've heard similar feedback from people that don't have a fixed income (like freelancers). There's a way to solve this, but probably not with this pie chart. I might consider making another report that is more useful for people in that boat.
