Self-Hosting

Penpot Desktop supports accessing custom instances of Penpot, you can run Penpot on your own server or computer and connect to it using Penpot Desktop.

To self-host Penpot, follow the official self-hosting instructions. Once your own Penpot instance is up and running, connect to it using Penpot Desktop by entering the server URL in the application's settings.

Connecting Penpot Desktop to a custom Penpot instance

  1. Set up a new Penpot instance following the official self-hosting instructions.
  2. Note the server URL of your Penpot instance eg http://localhost:3000/.
  3. Open Penpot Desktop and go to Settings (the gear icon in the top right corner).
  4. Enter the server URL in the Instance section and click Save.
  5. Restart Penpot Desktop.
  6. The next time you open a new tab in Penpot Desktop, it will connect to the newly configured Penpot instance.
