Greek-paGAN is a project aimed at performing classification and generation tasks on a dataset of ancient Greek characters. The project utilizes advanced machine learning techniques to recognize and generate glyphs from damaged papyri.
For a comprehensive overview of the project's objectives, methodologies, and findings, please see our report and the notebooks overview in Detailed Project Report.
For installation instructions and getting started with the project, please see the Installation Guide.
The original dataset is from the ICDAR 2023 competition. Participating teams focused on glyph detection and recognition in ancient Greek texts on damaged papyri. For this exercise, we are using cropped images of each character from the papyrus, available for download here.
