WalletConnect v2 Issues

Last week, WalletConnect shutdown its v1 bridge server forcing every dapp and wallet developer to support WalletConnect v2. This broke the WalletConnect features in many blue-chip wallets (including Valora and Gnosis Safe) and many dapps (including most dapps that use rainbowkit under the hood).

As a web3-wide incident, unfortunately, this also broke WalletConnect features in cLabs-owned products including the stcelo.xyz dapp, the safe.celo.org multisig wallet, and the react-celo library (used in ChurritoFi and Ubeswap).

Currently, WalletConnect has been made aware of the issue and the AppTooling team is in active discussions about how we resolve it and move forward. We'll post updates to this thread as they come in.

Update July 4th

We are still working with the WalletConnect team and the Celo ecosystem to resolve outstanding WalletConnect issues. Progress has been made and some services are now fully functional.

Working Apps

• ChurritoFi
• Safe It is worth noting that possibly some of the dApps listed in Safe may be independently experiencing WalletConnect issues. However, the Safe app itself is WalletConnect v2 compatible.
• React Celo

Apps currently still affected:

• Staked Celo
• Celo Safe

Staked Celo

• Currently, we have seen that while all of our local testing indicates that Staked Celo should be working fine there is an issue that pops up specifically when Staked Celo is being hosted (so app.stcelo.xyz is an example of that).
• Given the information we've gathered from our testing and what the WalletConnect team has shared with us, if we are unable to resolve the WalletConnect v2 issue with the current libraries we are using we do have other libraries that we can try that will require some refactoring and additional work. We are still hopeful that we can resolve the current issue but as time passes we are more willing to consider the work of a refactor in order to unblock this issue.

Celo Safe

• Celo Safe is by nature going to always be lagging behind the official Safe app. As of now the official Safe app is WalletConnect v2 compatible, however, several of the dApps listed by Safe are running into similar issues as Staked Celo. We encourage Celo Safe users to move to Safe if they are running into WalletConnect issues as our main priority remains fixing Staked Celo.

Staked Celo Update

As of now we believe the WalletConnect v2 issue has been resolved and Staked Celo should be once again able to connect via WalletConnect.
