<h4>How did you end up working remotely? </h4>
<p>Zapier started as a side project. So remote work came natural.</p>
<h4>What are the largest challenges you've encountered in remote work? </h4>
<p>As teams grow you have to work hard to build the communication pipeline and make sure everyone is working towards the same common goals.</p>
<h4>Where is the most interesting place you’ve ever worked from? </h4>
<p>Umm. An airplane? </p>
<h4>What time zone do you keep? </h4>
<p>Pacific. Time zone difference are not too difficult to manage. We stick to asynchronous work and you can see the work people do in GitHub commits, Trello cards, Google Docs, etc so you don't need to be synchronous often.</p>
<h4>What's the hardest part about building a remote team? </h4>
<p>Repeating the line about communication: As teams grow you have to work hard to build the communication pipeline and make sure everyone is working towards the same common goals.</p>

<h4>What gear or tools do you use on a day to day basis that makes working remotely easier?</h4>
<p>Laptop and an internet connection is all you need.</p>
<h4>Do you have any advice for anyone thinking about going remote or just starting out? </h4>
<p>Try to set it up so everyone is remote. If you do that you'll do a better job of making everyone feel included instead of creating a second class citizen for remote.</p>

<h4>How does your current cost of living compare with other places you’ve lived? </h4>
<p>Sunnyvale, CA is more expensive than anywhere I've ever been. Living in high cost of living areas will add stress to your life. Roughly 5% of our employees are in the Bay Area and 10% of our total employee base is located in California. Location doesn't play a factor at all in hiring.</p>
<h4>Has the rest of the team worked remotely before, or is this often their first time? Can you tell me about some of the growing pains team members have experienced growing accustomed to a non-office environment?
</h4>
<p>It's a mix. Some have experience and others don't. For new remote workers the key issue is figuring out a good work life balance between home and work.</p>

<h4>The high cost of living in CA can dissuade some from working there and I know you and the team are sensitive to that issue. I saw that you recently began offering a generous "delocation" fee to new recruits to leave the bay area. How did that idea arise? Any takes on your offer? </h4>
<p>This came out of conversations in interviews where bay area candidates mentioned they were thinking about leaving. So we decided to showcase the fact that we're willing to help folks who are on the fence. </p>
