Brigades and brigade members contribute to the body of linked, open data about civic life by making civic data discoverable, easy to syndicate and easy to process by computers.
- Find data that are meaningful to a known, easy to identify set of "customers"
- If data are not online, put the raw data online at a URL for reference purposes
- If data are not in a machine-readable format then write a transformation process to convert source to machine-readable
- If the data are in a proprietary format then write a transformation to convert to an open format
- Write a description of the data that includes links to sources, transformations and results
- Publish the description of the data to a URL
- Add the description to a catalog of linked, open data sets
- Tell customers about the new data
A "customer" is anyone who's interest in the data is something other than how it is processed and published by computers. Customers have a "business domain" interest in the data.
