I was browsing File items with lead images using eea.facetednavigation, and noticed that the thumbnails do not appear, as facetednavigation is looking for image_thumb.

Could contentleadimage provide the image_* API, same as e.g. NewsItem? That would make lead images useful in more contexts.

I do not see harm in this, though I have no idea how one could retrofit such traversing code to Plone content types.

Hmm maybe that's why it's missing in the first place ....

If I remember correctly there was hardcoded bobo_traverse in ATImage

Yup, Products.ATContentTypes.content.image.__bobo_traverse__

There might be a smarter way to do this with current Plone architecture?
