Welcome to the Electronic-Gimbal wiki!

Functional requirements

  • Rotate camera around two axes.
  • Wired control of PT(Z), focus, iris, ISO
  • Output SDI

Electro mechanical

Quality requirements

  • At least 30 Pan-tilt Operation Speeds between 0.08°/s to 60°/s
  • Support cameras up to 3kg of size 126.9 mm x 95.6 mm x 316.4 mm (width x height x length)

Implementation

  • 2x BLDC + encoders (+ slipring on yaw)
  • U-bracket? motor both sides?
  • Controller (SimpleBGC/StormBGC?)
  • Existing kit
    • BeStableCam HORIZON H4/H6
    • DYS Summer Air/Saga

Todo

  • Make mock-up with StormBGC with simple motors + joystick
  • Check distance between COG & extremities of body
  • Find a way to buy parts separately (no need for imu, batteries, joystick, wireless, ...)

Signaling

Quality requirements

  • ‼️ Video delay <100ms
  • Response time for rotation commands must be < 20ms (debatable, maybe simulate this)
  • Signals must be able to travel 100m
  • Support control of 30 units over the same transport medium.
  • Documentation of the control protocol for maximum interoperability.

Implementation

  • Use PTZ control over second SDI (using BMD SDI ardu shield).
  • Use battery grip connector for control & power (plug & play: only connect grip + HDMI).
    • Alternative: Use rPi/VoCore2/other for controlling cam
  • Write SW for SimpleBGC or other driver board (use on-board accelero for up/down detection).
    • Alternative: Use SimpleBGC firmware for easy setup & driving of motors

Todo

  • Check delay of joystick-MCU-SDI-MCU-motor (BMD SDI shield usable?)
    • Alternatives: use Ethernet or RS485 over XLR
  • Check usability of rPi/VoCore2/other vs embedded
  • Find pinout of batterygrip (USB available?)
  • Check controlling over USB (see RM-VPR1, NW-870, MK-A7IIR)
  • Check libgphoto2 with rPi/VoCore2/other for controlling over USB @dev1an
  • Find a lens motor for focus/zoom
