<p>Il <b>Palatino</b>, in quanto "culla" di Roma, ha suscitato fin dall'inizio l'interesse di antiquari, scavatori e artisti. Questo progetto di ricerca si
concentra su come sia stata affrontata la sfida di documentare e ricostruire visivamente gli edifici antichi e i numerosi reperti del Palatino, su quali
tecniche e metodi siano stati utilizzati e su come le immagini risultanti siano state usate per creare e trasmettere la conoscenza.</p>

<p>Il <b>progetto</b> si occupa della gestione della documentazione pittorica nei processi di ricerca archeologica sulla base di un complesso topografico abbastanza
grande. L'arco temporale è ampio e va dalle prime piante e vedute del Palatino nel primo periodo moderno agli attuali metodi di produzione di immagini assistite
da computer. Grazie al lungo periodo di indagine, emergono cambiamenti e rotture nelle immagini, che consentono di analizzare i fattori responsabili. Inoltre,
la prospettiva a lungo termine del progetto consente anche di esaminare l'influenza delle immagini precedenti sulle visualizzazioni create successivamente,
rispondendo così alla domanda su come le convenzioni di immagine emergono, cambiano e hanno un impatto duraturo sulle domande e sui risultati della ricerca.
In questo modo, il progetto non solo genera nuove informazioni sul Palatino e sulla sua storia di ricerca, ma dà anche un contributo fondamentale alla pratica
della documentazione e della ricostruzione pittorica come pratiche di produzione di conoscenza in archeologia.</p>

<p>Parallelamente alla monografia analitica, all'interno di <a href="https://idai.world/">idai.world</a> è in fase di realizzazione un sistema di geoinformazione per la visualizzazione della
storia del Palatino ("PalatinGIS") come <b>strumento centrale di analisi</b>. Esso consente di confrontare e valutare in modo comprensibile l'ampia raccolta di dati
già disponibile (circa 1.700 immagini digitalizzate) provenienti da archivi privati e istituzionali. Il GIS sarà reso accessibile secondo i principi FAIR e
sarà liberamente disponibile per ulteriori ricerche dopo il progetto. Nel corso del suo sviluppo, ci sarà anche l'opportunità di riflettere criticamente sul
valore aggiunto euristico dell'elaborazione dei dati digitali.</p>

<p>Il <b>sistema di geoinformazione del Palatino ("PalatinGIS")</b>è in fase di creazione e crescerà progressivamente nel
corso del progetto. In ordine cronologico, analogamente alla monografia attualmente in corso, le immagini dell'esplorazione
del Palatino dal primo periodo moderno (1500 circa) all'età della digitalizzazione saranno arricchite di informazioni
e inserite in <a href="https://arachne.dainst.org/">iDAI.objects</a> sotto forma di voci di oggetti. Ciascuna di queste voci è mappata in un layer cronologico
in <a href="https://geoserver.dainst.org/#/">iDAI.geoserver</a>. Un layer è una mappa georeferenziata del Palatino creata non molto tempo dopo lo scatto dell'immagine. Le voci di Objects possono essere
ricercate (<a href="https://arachne.dainst.org/info/faq">https://arachne.dainst.org/info/faq</a>) secondo vari criteri (oggetto raffigurato, data, artista, tecnica, letteratura, ecc.).
Il collegamento reciproco delle voci - dalla voce dell'oggetto in iDAI.objects al layer corrispondente in iDAI.geoserver e viceversa
- consente una ricerca completa che facilita l'accessibilità e la comparabilità delle immagini in relazione a vari aspetti che sono
stati approfonditi nel progetto. Per una migliore visione d'insieme, oltre all'accesso all'intero catalogo, saranno creati due
ulteriori cataloghi contenenti materiale di specifici periodi e di specifici complessi edilizi del Palatino (catalogo cronologico e topografico).</p>
