The documentation about the smooth continuum correction is not clear, especially for early-career scientists. It is unclear how the smooth continuum correction is applied to get the continuum-subtracted spectra.
Can you please include the explanation for the motivation for including a smooth continuum component, how it is obtained and instructions about how to use it when analyzing spectra or for reconstucting the best-fit model.
Does this component help in the case of an AGN power law contribution -- as this cannot be accounted for using only stellar population models?
