Text seedu.duke.util.UI Testing Tutorial

  1. Create a folder [project root]\text-ui-test

  2. Add a runtest.bat (if you are on Windows) or runtest.sh (if you are on a *nix OS) into the folder, containing the script below.
    runtest.bat:

    if not exist ..\bin mkdir ..\bin
    
    REM delete output from previous run
    del ACTUAL.TXT
    
    REM compile the code into the bin folder
    javac  -cp ..\src -Xlint:none -d ..\bin ..\src\main\java\Duke.java
    IF ERRORLEVEL 1 (
        echo ********** BUILD FAILURE **********
        exit /b 1
    )
    REM no error here, errorlevel == 0
    
    REM run the program, feed commands from input.txt file and redirect the output to the ACTUAL.TXT
    java -classpath ..\bin Duke < input.txt > ACTUAL.TXT
    
    REM compare the output to the expected output

    runtest.sh:

  3. Update the javac and java commands in the script to match the name/location of your main class.

  4. Add an EXPECTED.txt to the same folder, containing the expected output.

  5. Add an input.txt containing the input commands.

  6. Run the .bat/.sh file to execute the test.
