Changelog:

  • Amtrak is now supported! Thanks to @piemadd's Amtrak API, you can now see the locations of Amtrak trains, along with more information about their status. This is currently in the works, and more information (and a cleaner experience) will be coming soon. This feature can be toggled via the "Amtrak Button" (the button with a train symbol)
  • Moved to Webpack from Browserify
  • We now use self-hosted analytics, so no more google :)
  • Code has been cleaned up a ton

More details about Amtrak coming soon.

Best,
Eliot

Hello everyone!

This release includes an Amtrak-only view, a railroad crossing database, a redesign of the page system, and more! Feel free to learn more about the new features here.

As always, if you have any issues or suggestions, please feel free to create an issue.

Changelog

  • View Amtrak routes in more detail than ever, complete with station information!
  • Added a legend in the "About" popup to help understand the map's color scheme.
  • Added a direct link to popups.
  • Created a interactive google sheet/database, available at therailmap.com/database; however, don't expect it to be very fast...
  • You can now fly directly to a set of coordinates using the ?latlng= argument
  • European rail tunnels are now represented on the map
  • Added /vrf for viewing virtual railfan camera locations.
  • Moved /europe over to the main site, the old page now redirects users to therailmap.com?redirect=europe
  • Moved site hosting to GitHub pages, for a smoother integration with GitHub.
  • Updated the site font to SF
  • Moved back to using Browserify and Node.js

Thanks for the support,
Eliot
