Description of the problem including expected versus actual behavior:
It looks like the python docs haven't been updated to include the search application APIs although it does seem to work in the client if you guess the correct calls.
fwiw https://elasticsearch-py.readthedocs.io/ is still out of date, because it's only republished when we add a new release tag to the repo. so those docs will get updated when 8.9.1 is published, which I think we can do soon.
