I had no trouble opening an NTFS partition on an external HDD that was created in Linux some time ago although it seemed rather slow to open (3 or 4 seconds) although the root folder only contained a few folders. Overall the partition was 100GB of which 75GB was used. How long have you waited for the HDD to finish loading? Are there a lot of files in the root folder? IconView in particular is slow to display a large number of files - it is faster to use ListView for that.
The behavior is like this. After mounting when i navigate to inner folders and then coming back to root will cause an infinte loading. If i navigate via cli i was able to list and see the mounted device.
