Are you an Early Career Researcher (ECR) attending Exoclimes? The organizers of Exoclimes want to help you make the most of your trip to Exeter and the UK, especially as many people will have to make long, carbon-expensive, journeys. With that in mind, we want to give you an opportunity to advertise your visit to the UK and your research to the UK exoplanet community. Our hope is that, logistics permitting, this may facilitate visits to other research institutions in the UK before or after Exoclimes.

Process: Your invitation email will contain a link to a Google form where you can upload a single slide with an overview of your research and your contact information. The slides from all participants in the network will then be distributed to the exoplanet research groups at thirteen UK research institutions that have agreed to participate. Members of the participating institutions will contact you if they are interested in inviting you to visit as part of your trip to Exoclimes VI/ExoSLAM maximising the benefit of your travel!

Alternatively, you can fill out this Google Form. To allow sufficient time for participating institutions to review the slides, the deadline for submissions is April 14th, 2023. Note this is earlier than the deadline for registering for Exoclimes.

Predicted Frequently Asked Questions

Why an introductory slide over an abstract for a talk? We believe that a slide is the best way for a researcher to introduce themselves and display their research as it allows for plots and figures to be included. It also allows ECRs to show what they are working on regardless of the stage of the project, while an abstract may indicate some level of “paper-readiness”. A more formal abstract may also give the impression that the participant is being invited for a talk. While institutions are of course welcome to invite participants to speak, the details of any visit are up to the researcher and the institution.

Are ECRs from the UK allowed to participate? Yes! While part of the motivation of this project is to help maximise the benefit for ECRs who are travelling to the UK, we welcome all ECRs who want to advertise their research.

Will funding be provided for arranged visits? The ability to provide support for a visit will vary greatly from institution to institution. Be sure to discuss this when making any arrangements to visit.

Will these introductory slides be used elsewhere? The slides will be only used as a part of this networking project and will not be used during the conference or summer school.

Which institutions are involved? University of Birmingham, University of Cambridge, University of East Anglia, University of Edinburgh, University of Hertfordshire, Imperial College London, Keele University, University of Leeds, University of Leicester, Newcastle University, The Open University, University of Oxford, University of Warwick, and University of Exeter.
